Aspiration - behind thick walls

My Crane Flies (Erdschnaken) are objects that express a desire to fly, yet they struggle on their dis-proportionally long legs. THeir tighlty packed marble wings remind us of our wish to soar while being grounded on the earth. They are creatures that are structure only, not mass and they occupy the space that we built around us. Their wings become shields in themselves, armour of sorts, floating in the air. Once you enter the space, you will be among them, another object, immersed.
There is no knight's room without "shields". These prints are based on pencil drawings in the same sale - the reach of my arms spreading around my body. Layers of lines create a structure, fragile in its essence, yet strong in its accumulation and determination. Cut out in the digital file, they become object drawings: Based on shells, yet echoing the proportions of a human being, as wellas the humming of the wings of the large insects that they surround.
These shields are about strength despite an appearance of delicacy: they equally determine a closure and an opening. They are echoes of a world that is reverberating relentlessly around us, calming it in a muffled mirror of silent embrace.
